C4ISTAR Chief Engineer

Our client are a leading defence organisation engaged in the design, development integration and sustainment of complex systems into the Defence and Aerospace sectors.

Prime Purpose

The CE is responsible for the engineering solutions and delivery within the C4ISTAR Business Area.

This role is a rotation assignment and is planned to take 30% effort. All project related activities i.e. must be booked to projects.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership for engineering within the C4ISTAR Business Area, ensuring that engineering efforts are co-ordinated across the design teams to provide maximum benefit to the business.

• Establishing the engineering requirements for the Business Area, people, skills, capability and technology.

• Leading activities within the BA to create future technology requirements, including product evolution and improvement, design re-use, new product development and technical investments

• Liaise with the Head of Technology to create and implement the Technology Strategy Plan and maintaining the customer engagement strategy.

• Ensure that Engineering Functional Managers have timely visibility of the engineering resource needs within the Business Area, working with them to agree and fill all key appointments

• Review the engineering aspects of all programmes within the Business Area, providing appropriate feedback to the Functional Managers and Business Area Managers.

• Review projects to ensure that all design activities within the Business Area are subject to Design and Independent reviews (PSR, ITR and INAR), and that technical risk is managed effectively

• Professional development of engineers assigned to the Business Area (including support to appraisals and goal flow-down).

Requirements

The successful candidate must:

• Have extensive experience within systems engineering and particularly within the field of C4ISTAR.

• Be degree qualified and a Chartered Engineer.

• Have experience of acting as design authority for complex systems integration programmes.

• The motivation to drive change and implement technical innovation.
